How to plan the week
Nikopolis and Preveza old town are both half-days, and the time of day matters more than the day itself: Nikopolis is a morning, because it is open countryside with almost no shade, and the old town is an evening, because the tavernas do not fill until after nine. Lefkada is a full day if you are heading for the west-coast beaches, and the bridge at Aktio opens on the hour for boat traffic, so build the wait into your timing.
The Acheron is the outlier: it is well over an hour inland each way, so it takes a whole day and it does not combine with anything else. Take a picnic from the apartment and water shoes — the riverbed is rounded stone and slippery, and that matters more than anything else you pack.
A car is close to essential for all of it. Public transport around here is built for residents rather than visitors, and none of these four are walkable from Chroneika.
