Preveza Carnival
February–March, ending on the Clean Monday weekend
Preveza town · 5 km from the apartments
Parades, floats and a week of events through the pedestrianised old town — one of the bigger carnivals in western Greece.
The parade runs down the waterfront and into the old town, and the tavernas around the harbour stay open well past midnight on the final weekend. If you are staying with us over carnival, the town is a ten-minute drive and parking fills early on parade days.
Preveza Jazz Festival
Late May or early June, one weekend
Kyani Akti waterfront, Preveza · 5 km from the apartments
Free evening concerts on the seafront with Greek and international jazz acts — the waterfront road closes and the whole town turns out.
A genuinely pleasant way to start a stay: concerts run from sunset on the promenade by the harbour entrance, with food stalls along the waterfront. Arrive on foot if you are already in town — the streets around the venue are closed to cars.
International Choral Festival of Preveza
Early July, four days
Preveza town · 5 km from the apartments
Choirs from across Europe sing in churches, squares and the harbour across four days — free to attend, with the finale on the waterfront.
The open-air performances are the ones worth planning around — the indoor competition sessions are specialist fare, but the evening concerts in the squares are free and the atmosphere across the old town is the best part of it.
Nikopolia Festival at Ancient Nikopolis
July and August, performances on selected nights
Ancient Theatre of Nikopolis · 6 km from the apartments
Theatre, music and dance staged inside the Roman theatre of Nikopolis — ten minutes away and the standout summer evening out near the property.
The theatre seats thousands under open sky, and the programme mixes Greek productions with touring acts. Even when the specific show is not your thing, watching anything performed in a two-thousand-year-old Roman theatre is worth the ten-minute drive. Take a cardigan — the site is exposed and cools quickly after sunset.
Preveza Sardine Festival
One evening in August, usually mid-month
Preveza waterfront · 5 km from the apartments
The town grills tonnes of free sardines along the waterfront with live music — the single busiest night of the Preveza summer.
Locals and visitors eat shoulder to shoulder at long tables on the promenade while the boats that caught the fish are still tied up a few metres away. Go early for parking and stay for the dancing — it runs late. The drive back to Chroneika takes ten minutes even when the town is full.
Assumption Day Village Festivals
15 August and the evenings around it
Villages across the Preveza area · 8 km from the apartments
Every village square in the area sets out tables for the 15 August panigyri — roast meat, live music and dancing until the early hours.
This is the most traditional night of the Greek summer and it happens everywhere at once — the squares of the villages around Chroneika all hold their own, so you can pick by atmosphere rather than distance. Ask us on arrival and we will point you at whichever one is on that year.
Lefkada International Folklore Festival
The last week of August
Lefkada town · 35 km from the apartments
Dance troupes from a dozen countries take over Lefkada town for a week, with the closing parade through the main street.
Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a bridge, so this is a forty-minute drive rather than a ferry trip. Go in the evening — the daytime programme is for participants, the town comes alive after nine, and the harbour restaurants are at their best that week.
