Staying near Preveza (Aktion) Airport

The airport is at Aktio, on the far side of the channel at the mouth of the Amvrakikos Gulf. On a map it looks as though Preveza is directly opposite and unreachable without a long detour. It is not: the Preveza–Aktio undersea tunnel runs beneath the channel and the crossing is a couple of minutes. It is a toll tunnel, and it is the route every taxi and hire car takes.

We would rent a car. Not because the transfer is difficult — it is a short taxi ride — but because Chroneika is a small settlement and everything beyond the shoreline is a drive: the supermarket, the beaches, Nikopolis, dinner in Preveza. Parking at the apartments is free and on site, so the car costs you nothing to keep once you are here.

If you are arriving without a car, take a taxi from the rank outside arrivals and give the driver the address: Aristotelous 26, Chroneika. Agree the fare before you set off, as is normal practice in Greece for a fixed-destination run.

Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00. PVK is a seasonal airport that handles a lot of charter traffic, and charter slots are frequently late in the evening — if your flight lands after dark, message us with the flight number before you travel so someone is expecting you rather than assuming you are a no-show.

For an early departure, twenty minutes is enough for the drive at that hour. Early check-in and late check-out are both possible depending on whether the apartment is occupied either side of your stay — ask in advance rather than on the day.

Igoumenitsa, the ferry port for crossings from Italy, is roughly an hour and a half north by road. Athens is a long drive — allow the best part of a day rather than treating it as a morning. KTEL intercity coaches serve Preveza from the major Greek cities, but they arrive in town, not in Chroneika, so you would still need a taxi for the last four kilometres.
