Monolithi Beach, near Preveza
Monolithi is the long sand beach that runs north from the Mytikas dunes — it is regularly described as one of the longest continuous sandy beaches in Europe, at roughly 22 kilometres. In practice that means you can always find an empty stretch, even in mid-August.

What to expect on arrival
The organised section sits at the southern end near the pine forest; walk north for five minutes and it empties out completely.
Backed by a protected pine forest that gives natural shade — useful, because there is little built shade away from the bars.
Open water with no natural shelter, so it picks up swell on windy days.
